Driving the GTI

Never have I ever driven a GTI till this day. This particular one is a MK7 Golf GTI, and the owner is a friend of my.

The Volkswagen Golf GTI I drove is the most exciting hatch I had driven to date. The owner had tuned this particular hot-hatch to produce 300 ponies from the mill. Its a mere 2.0 litre turbocharged engine thats comes with a standard output, 220hp.

GTI

Given the opportunity to roll in this hatch made me to realise what is the extra money you pay for such cars. Its the engineering in it. If you can hit 200kmh seamlessly and yet you’re there tucked to the seat, ladies and gentlemen thank the engineering behind its chassis.

You know what is this 😜

Next in the line, its famous 6 speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) that gave me the oomph while rolling. Paddle down, rev-match and floor the gas, satan pulled me from the back of my seat. The smooth transition between each gears made me to shift down and up to rev match and to be pulled forward all the time. Bare in mind, using paddle shifters need some special skills πŸ˜‰.

Akrapovic pipes that are louder than…you know.. πŸ”Š

Coupled with Akrapovic tailpipes, the pop you hear during gearshifts in sports mode is a music to car enthusiasts out there.

18 inch wheels with 235/40 sized shoes

The owner fitted large shoes to his ride. Having those large shoes means you will experience improved cornering and handling at high speeds or sharp corners. Choose wisely before you buy new shoes as it also impacts on NVH and grip.

With great power comes great responsibility is an appropriate saying to the owners of these sports cars. You drive fast, but make sure you are capable of keeping the car in your control. That is how a good driver is nurtured.

This is one such car that offers both comfort and performance on streets of Kuala Lumpur and only performance on weekend drives on sub urban streets.
